Sutton 2.0mm HSS-Cobalt Left-Hand Jobber Drill Bit

Part No: D2020200  |  Barcode: 9311963602851  |  Series: D202 Left Hand Cobalt

The Sutton D2020200 is a 2.0mm left-hand spiral jobber drill in HSS with 5% cobalt for cutting hard, work-hardening alloys. The reverse helix is the trick: paired with reverse spindle rotation it grabs and removes broken bolts, snapped studs, and stripped fasteners as it drills.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Left-hand helix L30 — flutes spiral the opposite way to a standard drill so chips eject when the spindle runs counter-clockwise. Pair with a reversed-out drill to back damaged fasteners out as you cut.
  • 5% cobalt HSS — cobalt blends into the steel matrix to retain hardness up past 500°C, resisting heat softening when drilling stainless and tempered fasteners.
  • Shorter cutting lips — reduce drilling torque and let the bit bite into hardened bolts without skating across the broken-off face.
  • Colour-tempered finish — thin oxide layer holds cutting fluid against the flutes and lowers built-up edge in gummy alloys.
  • 118° point, Form A — conventional point geometry resharpens easily on a standard drill grinder.
  • DIN 338 jobber length — standard length so collet, chuck, and depth-stop accessories all fit without modification.

When to Use This Drill

The Sutton D2020200 (2.0mm) is the go-to choice for removing broken bolts and studs — drill into the centre of the snapped fastener with the chuck in reverse and the rotation usually walks the broken piece out before you reach the bottom. Also runs in CNC screw machines that index left-hand spindles. For straight forward drilling of standard right-hand operations, use the Sutton D108 cobalt range instead.
Pro Tip: Centre-punch the broken fastener first, then start the 2.0mm hole with the drill running in reverse — the cutting flutes will engage and bite the work even though the chuck is spinning the "wrong" way. Most snapped studs come out before the drill reaches the bottom of the threads, saving you the screw extractor step entirely. Apply cutting fluid generously; this is where cobalt earns its keep.
