A centreless ground high-carbon tool steel (approximately 1% carbon, 0.95% chromium) prized for its dimensional accuracy, bright finish, and ability to be hardened and tempered. Ideal for precision toolmaking, punches, pins, dowels, gauges, and custom shafts.

- Centreless ground finish — provides excellent dimensional accuracy and a bright, smooth surface straight from the bar with no further machining required for many applications.
- High-carbon tool steel — approximately 1% carbon and 0.95% chromium gives good wear resistance in the as-supplied condition and responds well to heat treatment.
- Hardenable and temperable — can be water or oil quenched to achieve high hardness (up to approximately 64 HRC), then tempered to the desired working hardness for tooling applications.
- 1000mm standard length — generous working length for cutting multiple components, reducing waste and keeping stock on hand for future jobs.
When to Use This Product
Choose this 3/8″ silver steel round bar for precision work where dimensional accuracy and a fine surface finish matter. Use it as-supplied for pins, dowels, and shafts that need a close tolerance fit, or heat treat it for punches, dies, engraving tools, and wear components. Silver steel machines cleanly on a lathe or mill and can be cut to length with a hacksaw or abrasive disc.
