The Carbitool TSS 13 1/2 is a 6-flute carbide-tipped surface planer with a 2″ (50.80mm) cutting diameter and 3/8″ (9.53mm) cut length. Suited to all timbers, it is a practical choice for slab milling on CNC routers and levelling sacrificial or wasteboard surfaces on CNC router beds.

When to Use This Bit
The TSS 13 1/2 is the go-to bit for two key tasks: surfacing timber slabs on a CNC sled jig, and periodically levelling the spoilboard/wasteboard on a CNC router table. In both cases, the wide cutting diameter means fewer passes and the 6-flute geometry leaves a cleaner surface than fewer-flute alternatives. Run it in a table-mounted router or CNC spindle — it is not designed for handheld routing due to the forces involved at this diameter.
Pro Tip: For spoilboard levelling, a stepover of 40–50% of the cutter diameter and a spindle speed of 18,000–22,000 RPM with a moderate feed rate produces an even, flat surface with minimal scalloping. Take a final light skim pass (0.5mm depth) to clean up any remaining tool marks.
