Key Features & Benefits
- 4.0mm (5/32″) round profile — sized for .325″ pitch saw chain as supplied on most Stihl, Husqvarna, Echo and Makita chainsaws. Check your chain wrapper or saw manual for the recommended file diameter before buying.
- Knurl-cut teeth — Nicholson’s signature tooth pattern cuts faster than a standard single-cut file and stays sharp through a whole sharpening session without glazing.
- Cushion-grip handle fitted — comfortable two-component grip that stays put in wet or gloved hands and lets you sharpen several chains without cramping.
- Hardened high-carbon steel — Nicholson files have been the chainsaw-file benchmark in North America for decades; the teeth bite into hardened chrome cutters rather than glazing off.
- Works with standard file guides — compatible with Oregon, Stihl, Husqvarna and Pferd roller holders and 2-in-1 guides for consistent cutter angles.
- 200mm working length — long enough to take a full cutter stroke in one smooth pass so every cutter ends up the same length.
When to Use
The right Nicholson file for the most common chainsaw pitch — .325″ chains on mid-size saws (50-65cc) including Stihl MS 261/271/291, Husqvarna 550/555/560 and Echo CS-500 series. File each cutter 2–3 strokes at the manufacturer’s recommended angle (typically 25–35° for crosscut, 10° for ripping chain), count strokes so all cutters end up the same length, and drop the depth gauges with a flat file every 3–4 sharpenings.
