When to Use This Die Nut
Reach for a die nut whenever you need to chase, clean or restore an existing external thread — automotive head studs, exhaust studs, rusted bolts after sand-blasting, painted-over thread crests. Don’t use it to cut a brand-new thread from scratch (that’s a button die’s job) — die nuts re-form the existing crests rather than removing material. This particular variant (M4401200) cuts a M12x1.75 thread.
Pro Tip: A die nut chases threads — it isn’t designed to cut fresh ones. If a fastener looks badly stripped or oversized, replace it rather than relying on a chased thread to hold full torque. For best results wire-brush loose rust off first, then run the die nut on with cutting oil applied generously.
