The Sutton D1153200 is a 32.0mm Morse taper shank drill, MT4 taper, designed for direct mounting in lathe tailstocks, drill press spindles, and milling machines. When to Use This Drill
The Sutton D1153200 (32.0mm MT4) is the right choice when running larger drills in machine tools — lathe tailstock drilling for facing operations, drill press work over 13mm where chuck capacity runs out, or production drilling on a mill where the taper shank stays mounted between jobs. For hand-held drilling or use in standard 3-jaw chucks, choose a parallel-shank D101 jobber or D188 reduced-shank drill instead.
Pro Tip: Match the MT4 taper exactly to the machine’s socket — if your tailstock is MT2 and you need to fit an MT4 drill, use a Morse taper sleeve adapter (sold separately). Don’t force a smaller taper into a bigger socket; it won’t self-lock and the drill can spin in the socket and chew up both the drill shank and the socket. Wipe both faces clean before mounting; even fine swarf on the taper face will throw the centring out by tens of microns.
