The Sutton D1081200 is a 12.0mm heavy-duty cobalt drill engineered for cutting the materials that destroy plain HSS jobber drills — 304/316 stainless, hardened tool steels, cast iron, bronze, and any alloy that work-hardens under cutting pressure. M35 (5% cobalt) HSS holds its edge at higher cutting temperatures than M2.

• 5% cobalt M35 HSS — the cobalt blends into the steel matrix and holds its hardness up past 500°C, where M2 HSS softens at ~480°C. Critical when drilling stainless because the bit runs hot and a softened edge work-hardens the material instantly.
• 135° split point — self-centring on smooth and angled surfaces. Eliminates the centre punch step on stainless, where the work-hardening from a centre punch can dull the bit before it cuts.
• Thick core / heavy web design — reinforced flute web resists the deflection that snaps standard drills under heavy feed pressure in tough alloys. Important for cobalt drills because the higher feed pressure they need would deflect a thinner-web drill.
• Colour-tempered finish — the gold/brown tempering colour is your fast visual identifier on site that this is a cobalt drill, not a plain HSS one. Saves grabbing the wrong drill out of a mixed kit.
• DIN 338 standard length — matches metric jobber drill proportions exactly, so there’s no fit issue with collet stops, depth gauges, or drill index storage.
• Drills materials plain HSS won’t touch — opens the door to in-house drilling of stainless fasteners, hardened drill jig templates, and modifications to heat-treated parts that would otherwise need outsourcing.
