The Sutton D2170300 is a 3.0mm extra-long reach drill, 300mm overall length, designed for jobs where a standard jobber bit physically can’t reach — deep wall penetrations, through-stud cable runs, plumbing rough-ins, and timber-frame fitouts. When to Use This Drill
The Sutton D2170300 (3.0mm) is the right call when reach matters more than rigidity — running data cable through stud walls, drilling through joists for plumbing, or threading clearance holes through layered timber where a 150mm drill body just won’t make it. For deeper holes than 300mm, step up to an auger; for everyday drilling, use a jobber-length drill instead.
Pro Tip: Run extra-long drills at lower RPM than the equivalent jobber size and start the hole with the chuck pushed close to the work, then withdraw to give the long shank room. Walking starts with shank flex — once the flutes are cutting, deflection drops and the bit tracks straight. For 3.0mm in timber, ~600-1000 RPM with steady pressure is the sweet spot.
