The Sutton D220H1231 is a 31/64″ HSS jobber drill from the XP Bullet range — the upgraded version of the classic Silver Bullet, with an extreme parabolic flute (XP) profile that pulls chips out of the cut faster and a 135° split point that eliminates centre-punching. When to Use This Drill
The Sutton D220H1231 (31/64″ XP Bullet) is the upgraded everyday jobber drill — the right choice for general drilling in mild steel, aluminium, plastics, timber, and softer cast iron where the parabolic flute and split point reduce drilling effort. For stainless steel and hardened alloys, step up to the D108 cobalt range; for ultra-precision work needing tight diameter tolerance, use the D101 Silver Bullet metric range. For impact driver use, switch to the D213 Supabit hex shank.
Pro Tip: XP Bullet drills run faster than conventional jobbers because of the lower thrust requirement — if you’re used to standard HSS drills, your usual feed pressure will be too heavy. Let the drill pull itself into the work; firm pressure but not heavy. The 135° split point starts so easily that walking is rarely an issue, but the bit will skate up wear ramps if you’re drilling near an existing hole or edge. Square the work first.
