Sutton 19.0mm Spade Bit

Part No: D5011900  |  Barcode: 9311963013145  |  Series: D501 Spade Bit

The Sutton D5011900 is a 19.0mm spade (paddle) bit, carbon steel with manganese phosphate finish, on a 1/4" hex shank for impact drivers and standard chucks. Power chip-breaker edges drill 5x faster than basic spade bits, and the heavy-duty shank handles cordless impact drilling without bending.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Power chip-breaker edges — the relieved cutting profile breaks chips into small pieces that clear out of the hole easily, drilling up to 5x faster than basic spade bits without binding.
  • Heavy-duty 1/4" hex shank — transmits maximum torque from impact drivers without twisting; positive grip in the chuck means no spinning under load.
  • Sharp centre point — long centring spur locates the bit on the marked centre and pulls the cutting edge into the timber without skating.
  • Wire pull-through hole — the small hole in the paddle face takes a wire pull, so electricians can drag cable through the hole on the way out without setting the drill down.
  • Manganese phosphate finish — gives a hard, abrasion-resistant surface that holds its edge longer than bright-finish spade bits, and resists corrosion in damp framing.
  • Carbon steel construction — tougher than HSS for low-speed timber drilling; resharpens easily with a flat file when the cutting edge dulls.

When to Use This Bit

The Sutton D5011900 (19.0 spade) is the right bit for fast through-bores in timber up to about 50mm thick — running plumbing copper through joists, electrical cable through studs, or cabinet hardware holes for shelf-pin systems above standard auger size. For deeper holes (over 100mm) use a flat-bit extension; for cleaner-edge holes in finished timber, use a Forstner or auger bit instead.
Pro Tip: Drill at full RPM with steady but light pressure — spade bits cut by paring rather than scraping, and they need speed to give a clean cut. If the bit is binding or smoking, you’re pushing too hard. For exit splintering on the back face of timber, slow the drill right down once the centre point breaks through, OR drill from both sides meeting in the middle (use a square to align). The wire pull hole works best when you tape the wire end inside before drilling.
