The Sutton D6101600 is a 16.0mm tungsten carbide tipped multi-material drill that runs in either rotary or hammer drill mode — through timber, concrete, brick, sheet steel, cast iron, even glazed tile and ceramic. Saves swapping bits when a single hole has to pass through tiled wall + plaster + brick or sheet steel + timber framing.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Carbide percussion tip with semi-positive profile — aggressive enough to bite into hard masonry but ground accurately enough to cut clean holes in steel and timber without grabbing.
  • L-profile flute design — the unique flute geometry clears concrete dust and metal swarf equally well, where standard masonry bits clog in steel and standard twist drills bind in concrete.
  • Rotary or hammer compatible — switch hammer mode on for masonry, off for timber/steel/tile. Same bit, no need to keep stopping to swap drills mid-job.
  • Unique brazing process — the Sutton-developed bond between carbide tip and steel body resists tip loss far better than standard masonry drill brazing.
  • Parallel round shank — fits any 3-jaw drill chuck. No special holder or quick-change adapter required.
  • Single-bit job-site solution — tradies running cable, plumbers fitting tap brackets, and electricians chasing wall plates all benefit from one bit that handles whatever surface comes up.

When to Use This Drill

The Sutton D6101600 (16.0mm) is the right choice when a single hole has to pass through layered or unknown material — through-bolting fixtures into rendered brick, mounting brackets to tiled walls with masonry behind, or any situation where you don’t know exactly what’s in the wall. For pure masonry or pure metal jobs in volume, a dedicated bit (Sutton D108 cobalt for steel, D600 series masonry for concrete) lasts longer and cuts faster.
Pro Tip: Switch the hammer action OFF before you hit tile or sheet metal — hammering on a glazed surface chips the tile face badly, and hammering through sheet steel just deflects the panel. Start each layer in rotary-only mode, switch hammer on once you’re into solid masonry. For 16.0mm in concrete, ~1500–2500 RPM with hammer is the working range.
