Sutton premium high-speed steel hand tap for cutting internal threads in steel, cast iron, brass, aluminium and most engineering metals. Ground from solid HSS with a bright finish and ISO529 straight flutes for accurate, repeatable threads. This M10x1.25 Intermediate variant covers the Metric Fine (MF) thread standard — Fine-pitch ISO Metric — used in thin-walled fittings, hydraulics, automotive and aerospace where higher tensile strength and finer adjustment are needed.

When to Use This HSS Hand Tap
Use this tap when cutting accurate threads in tougher engineering metals — mild and tool steels, stainless, cast iron, brass, aluminium and bronze — where carbon-steel taps would dull quickly. The taper lead-in makes it the natural starter tap; follow with the intermediate (second) and bottoming (plug) tap from the same series for blind holes. This particular variant (T4021006) cuts a M10x1.25 Intermediate thread.
Pro Tip: Use a quality cutting fluid (Sutton recommends sulphurised oil for steels and a wax stick or kerosene for aluminium) and back the tap off a quarter-turn every one to two full turns to break the chip — this prevents heat build-up and stops the flutes packing up in deeper holes.
