Key Features & Benefits

  • Classical cove profile — a swept cove shape that is the basis of traditional furniture and joinery moulding; sits alongside standard cove bits but with a more refined, compound curve geometry.
  • Variable bead inclusion — fit the included TB9 ball bearing (smaller diameter) to expose the bottom corner of the cutter and produce a classic cove with bottom bead. Swap to the larger TB11 bearing to eliminate the bottom bead for a clean cove-only profile. Use the machine’s height adjustment to include or exclude the top bead independently.
  • 2-flute carbide-tipped construction — handles continuous production runs through hardwood mouldings without losing profile definition.
  • Ball bearing guide — rides the workpiece edge for consistent depth without a fence, enabling use on curved or shaped stock.
  • 1/2″ shank — provides stability for the wider cutting width required by a classical cove profile; router table use is strongly recommended.

When to Use This Bit

Use the TC 716 B 1/2 when your moulding design calls for a classical cove rather than a simple radius cove. The profile is well-suited to reproduction furniture, colonial-style cabinetry, picture frame moulding, and matching existing traditional joinery profiles. Fit the TB9 bearing for a bottom bead; TB11 for no bead — and use height adjustment to control whether the top bead is engaged. The smaller variants in the R626 series (TC 708 B and TC 712 B) are available for finer-scale classical cove work.
Pro Tip: Set up bearing changes and height adjustments on scrap stock first. The combination of bearing size and height determines three distinct profile variations — test each before committing to a production run.
