When to Use the AC-962-015-05
Reach for the AC-962 taper gauge when you need a fast diameter check on a small hole — verifying a drilled pilot for tapping, checking a reamed dowel hole, or qualifying hydraulic orifice sizes. Faster than reaching for a caliper, and more accurate for small holes where caliper jaws don’t contact cleanly. For larger holes or sub-millimetre resolution use a dial bore gauge (AC-251) or telescopic gauge set (AC-951).
Pro Tip: Let the taper gauge drop into the hole under its own weight — pushing it down reads the hole as bigger than it is because the gauge wedges rather than seats. If it doesn’t drop freely, the hole is smaller than the reading position suggests. Re-ream or re-drill if go/no-go matters.
