Carbide-tipped 2-flute hinge mortice router bit, 3/4″ cutting diameter, 1/2″ shank. Designed for fast, accurate cutting of hinge recesses (mortises) from the edge of timber doors, frames, and cabinet faces. Also suited to stair tread housing joints.

The T 1624 1/2 is the go-to bit for router-cut hinge mortises in door hanging. Mount in a router table or use with an edge guide for consistent depth and position. The R518 series covers diameters from 1/2″ to 7/8″ — select the diameter that matches your hinge leaf width. For smaller mortises routed handheld, the T 2016 (1/4″ shank, 1/2″ dia.) is available.
Pro Tip: Set the router depth to exactly match the hinge leaf thickness before cutting. Use a simple depth stop block on your router table fence to ensure all mortises in a batch are cut to the same depth without re-measuring.
