Key Features & Benefits

  • Traditional Decorative Profile — produces a classic multi-radius moulding profile in one pass, ideal for matching heritage or period-style joinery and trim work.
  • Ball Bearing Guide — the integrated bearing tracks against the workpiece face for consistent depth of cut without a fence, making it easy to run curved or straight stock.
  • 2-Flute Carbide-Tipped Construction — long edge life with a smooth, chatter-free finish on both hard and soft timbers.
  • 1/2″ Shank — heavy shank ensures vibration-free performance on this larger-diameter cutter, critical for clean profile definition.
  • Combination Bit Capability — adjust the bit height in the router table to expose only part of the profile and produce complementary moulding variations from the same bit.

When to Use This Bit

Choose the TFM 42 B 1/2 for production runs of traditional-style skirting, architraves, and picture frame mouldings. It is best run in a table-mounted router at a steady, moderate feed rate. For different ornate profile styles, compare with the TFM 54 B 1/2 (R704) or TFM 36 B 1/2 (R699). Always use a full-size router (minimum 2 HP) with a 1/2″ collet.
Pro Tip: For the cleanest profile edge on MDF, make a scoring pass at half depth first, then a full finishing pass. This prevents the surface paper from lifting and gives a crisp, paint-ready edge.
