Solid carbide 2-flute up cut spiral router bit for aluminium, laminates, and non-ferrous metals. The up cut geometry pulls chips up and out of the groove, preventing packing and heat build-up in aluminium — the primary cause of chip re-welding and surface damage in metal routing.

- 2-flute design — balances chip load and cutting speed for aluminium alloys; too many flutes traps chips in the groove at higher feed rates.
When to Use This Bit
Choose the TSR 8 (up cut) for aluminium groove slotting and routing where chips need to clear upward — particularly for through cuts and blind grooves where the chip can exit from the top. If you need the chip to push downward (e.g., trimming aluminium laminates from below where the finished face is on top), use the down cut version TSL 8 instead. Both are available in 1/4″ and larger diameters.
Pro Tip: Use cutting fluid or a mist coolant when routing aluminium, even with solid carbide bits. Without lubrication, aluminium chips weld to the carbide cutting edge within seconds, destroying the edge and producing a rough, burnt surface. Feed rate should be higher than for timber — stalling the bit in aluminium causes immediate chip welding.
