When to Use the AC-158-012-11
Reach for the AC-158 when measuring brake drums for wear limits, taper or out-of-round conditions. Manufacturer wear limits are typically stamped on the drum; this caliper reads directly against that spec so you know whether to re-machine or replace. For disc-rotor thickness measurement a standard micrometer is the right tool; the drum-brake caliper is specifically for inside-diameter drum work.
Pro Tip: Take three readings 120° apart around the drum at the wear-surface depth to catch out-of-round. Average the three for the nominal ID; the spread tells you whether taper or ovality is an issue. A drum that’s round but oversized can be re-machined; one that’s out-of-round more than the service limit needs replacement regardless of the average.
