Centre drills (Slocombe drills) are short, rigid drills used to start a precision hole in lathe and mill work — the 60° pilot leaves a perfect locating point for a follow-up drill or for a lathe tailstock centre. Hafco’s D508 covers the standard No.1 through No.5 industrial sizes in M2 HSS.

When to Use This Set
Use the centre drill set on a lathe, mill or drill press whenever you need a perfectly-located starter hole. Standard practice: spot with the centre drill, then bring in the twist drill to finish to size. Always run at slower RPM than the follow-up drill — the small pilot tip will snap if you push it too hard.
