Carbide-tipped 90-degree V-groove router bit with a flat bottom groove, specifically engineered for routing aluminium composite panel (ACP) to enable clean 90-degree bends. The flat bottom leaves the backing layer intact, so the panel can be folded to a precise right angle without cutting through.

Key Features & Benefits
- Flat bottom groove geometry — the flat base leaves the aluminium backing skin intact, allowing the panel to be folded cleanly to 90 degrees. A standard V-groove cuts too deep and severs the backing layer, causing the fold to crack or fail.
- 90-degree included angle — produces the correct geometry for a 90-degree fold with equal 45-degree faces on each side of the groove.
- Carbide-tipped cutting edges — maintain sharpness through the abrasive aluminium composite core, which is significantly harder on tooling than solid timber or MDF.
- 1/2″ shank — essential for ACP routing; the heavier shank reduces deflection when cutting through the aluminium skin layers.
When to Use This Bit
The T 1230 1/2 is the correct bit for ACP sign and cladding fabrication wherever a 90-degree bend is required. Route a groove on the reverse face to approximately 75–80% of the panel depth, leaving the outer aluminium skin and thin PE core intact for folding. For standard decorative 90-degree V-grooves in timber and MDF (not folding), use the R578 series instead.
Pro Tip: Run at 12,000–16,000 RPM for ACP. Use a single pass at full groove depth — multiple passes in aluminium composite can cause the chips to re-weld in the groove. Ensure the work is firmly clamped or vacuum-held; ACP can lift under router pressure.
