Key Features & Benefits

  • Ogee Raised Panel Profile — produces a classic S-curve raised panel on door and drawer panel edges in a single router table pass, a defining profile in traditional and period-style cabinetry.
  • Large Cutting Diameter — the full-width cutter covers the complete panel edge profile without requiring multiple passes or height adjustments, delivering consistent results across production runs.
  • 2-Flute Carbide-Tipped Construction — provides long-lasting cutting edges and a smooth, finish-ready surface on hardwood, softwood, and MDF panels.
  • 1/2" Shank — mandatory for a bit of this size; the larger shank diameter provides the rigidity needed to prevent vibration and maintain profile accuracy at working feed rates.
  • Ball Bearing Version Available — the TPD 4 B 1/2 adds a ball bearing pilot for template-guided or freehand profiling where a fence is not used.

When to Use This Bit

Use TPD 4 1/2 when routing raised panel profiles on cabinet door panels, drawer fronts, and decorative furniture panels. This bit is intended for router table use with a fence — the fence controls the depth of cut and keeps the large-diameter bit stable throughout the pass. Always use a 1/2" router with adequate horsepower (2HP+) and take multiple shallow passes on hardwood rather than attempting the full profile depth in one pass. If you need a ball bearing guide for template or freehand routing, use the TPD 4 B 1/2 instead. For a matching stile and rail joint on the door frame, pair with TPD 1 B 1/2 (stile cutter) and TPD 2 1/2 (rail/cope cutter).
Pro Tip: For the cleanest finish, run the router table at 18,000–22,000 RPM with light passes — raise the bit in 3–4mm increments to full profile depth. Take a final skim pass at full depth with a slightly reduced feed rate to remove any mill marks. Always rout end grain first, then long grain, to prevent tearout at the corners.
