The Intech KTH1017 is a straddle / two-wheel knurling tool with one wheel above and one below the work. The wheels balance the radial load on the spindle, which means you can knurl longer or thinner parts without bowing them and without putting heavy side-load on the headstock bearings. The body is hardened steel and the wheels are user-replaceable when worn or when you want a different pattern.

When to Use This Knurling Tool
Use the KTH1017 when you are putting a diamond or straight knurl onto round bar — handles, control knobs, press fits that need extra grip, or any part where you want a textured surface for the operator. Run the lathe slow (60-150 RPM is typical), use plenty of cutting oil, and feed in straight off the cross-slide rather than along the work.
Pro Tip: Calculate your starting diameter first. Knurling raises the surface — typically by about half the pitch of the wheel — so a 25mm finished knurl needs the work turned to roughly 24.7mm before you start. Measure the wheel pitch and back off accordingly, otherwise the diamonds will be flat-topped or the bar will be oversize.
